Lately, as I grow older, I feel like I don't laugh as much as I used to. When I looked into it, I found out that this is quite natural for my age. Laughter happens when we are surprised by a slightly unexpected stimulus, which resets our confused minds and helps us accept something new. As we get older and gain more experience, we experience fewer surprises, and our laughter decreases too. This made me realize that my own life might be lacking in surprises.
So, I decided to go to a senior citizens' party comedy show. My goal was a comedy impersonation show starring someone named 'Sakamoto Fuyuyasumi.' I was drawn to the stage name. She must be an impersonator of Fuyumi Sakamoto, but wait, what is her gender anyway? Isn't she a man? This slightly strange stage name, 'Fuyuyasumi,' which means 'winter vacation,' built up my expectations.
Attending the senior citizens' party for the first time made me a bit hesitant to join a group full of elderly people, but to my relief, there were plenty of 'young people' there too, such as staff members and organizers.
When the show finally started, Sakamoto Fuyuyasumi sang songs by Saori Yuki, Miyuki Nakashima, Aki Yashiro, Hibari Misora, Sayuri Ishikawa, Naoko Ken, and others, centered around her impersonations of Fuyumi Sakamoto. Her voice is great. Her singing is great. Her impersonations are also good. The fast-paced performance of changing outfits four or five times was truly amazing. I thought she was a great performer.
I had a pretty good laugh. And above all, she was a true entertainer. Before I knew it, not only laughter, but a feeling of emotion was spreading through my chest.
She mentioned she has 25 years of experience in show business, but when I checked Wikipedia, I found out her repertoire of impersonations includes as many as 84 people. When I searched further, I even found her official website. She is quite a glamorous person. She has even established Sakamoto Fuyuyasumi Co., Ltd., which means she also serves as her own company president. I was surprised once again by her boundless activity.
And no matter how many times I think about it, the stage name 'Sakamoto Fuyuyasumi' always makes me smile.
This time, I was surprised by a new discovery. And I laughed a lot.
